Awareness for green energy sources has led to increasing demand of Biodiesel, BD as a renewable energy alternative to fossil fuel. Glycerol is a major byproduct of BD and considered an oversupplied commodity because of few applications characterized by its crude nature. Acetylation and carboxylation pathways to upgrade glycerol using Heterogeneous catalysts proves promising as its products have vast applications. However, heterogeneous catalyst often deactivates and limits industrial application of these pathways. Therefore, our recent article has dwelt in these two pathways, discussing in details various conditions that may lead to pitfall or promote their reaction.
